I am in London to speak at the first Storytelling in the Law conference, which is jointly sponsored by the Legal Writing Institute and the City University of London (Grey’s Inn). My talk is entitled “In Defense of Judicial Humor” - my thesis is that judicial humor can, if used correctly, advance the narrative of an opinion and make it more accessible.
I have been to London once before - over 20 years ago with my friend Jay, right after we took the bar exam. That trip was fun, but this one is even better. I went to a play at the new Globe Theatre - “Loves Labor’s Lost” - which was fantastic. And climbed to the top of St. Paul’s Cathedral.
I also went to an evensong performance at St. Paul’s where the choir I used to sing in as a boy - the St. Thomas Church Choir of Men and Boys - sang the service. It was unbelievably beautiful. They have gotten much better since I was there, I think, or I have forgotten. A spectacular experience.

This is one of my favorite pictures from the London trip. It is taken from inside the British Museum, showing the internal courtyard, and the roof that connects the new buildings with the old ones.
